Grain refiners — AlTi5B1 / AlTi3B1
For DC casting, billet and slab. Nucleant particles stay fine and evenly dispersed because the melt is stirred through the reaction, not after it.
Grain refiners, modifiers, degassing and covering fluxes for foundries, die casters and rolling mills. We batch in single furnaces, so the Ti/B ratio you qualify does not drift between deliveries.
Most smelters buy grain refiner from one supplier, flux from another, and spend the difference on settling claims between them. We cover the whole melt-treatment chain.
For DC casting, billet and slab. Nucleant particles stay fine and evenly dispersed because the melt is stirred through the reaction, not after it.
Converts acicular silicon into a fine fibrous structure in Al-Si casting alloys. Improves elongation and machinability without a long holding time.
Sodium-free and low-smoke. Cuts hydrogen to the level where gas porosity stops being the reason a casting is scrapped, and reduces ventilation load on the shop floor.
Forms a continuous liquid layer over the melt to hold metal temperature and stop oxidation, and separates entrapped aluminium from the dross so it goes back in the furnace, not the bin.
Values below are typical, not a guarantee. Final specification and tolerances are confirmed in the COA issued for your lot.
| Product | Code | Typical composition | Form | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grain refiner | AlTi5B1 | Ti 4.8–5.2 %, B 0.95–1.05 %, Al balance | Rod / waffle / ingot | DC billet, slab, 6xxx extrusion |
| Grain refiner | AlTi3B1 | Ti 2.8–3.2 %, B 0.95–1.05 %, Al balance | Rod / waffle | Lower Ti additions, thin-wall casting |
| Modifier | AlSr10 | Sr 9.0–11.0 %, Al balance | Ingot / waffle | Al-Si casting alloys, ADC12 / A356 |
| Degassing flux | HZ-DG | Chloride-based, sodium-free | Tablet / granular | Hydrogen removal before pouring |
| Covering flux | HZ-CV | Low-melting chloride / fluoride mix | Powder | Melt surface protection |
| Dross refining flux | HZ-DR | Fluoride-bearing | Powder | Metal recovery from dross and ash |
Not a list of adjectives. These are the three failures buyers bring to us after switching suppliers.
When the refiner is remelted from scrap or blended from bought-in master alloy, boron recovery varies and dosing that worked in March over-refines in June. Single-furnace batching keeps the ratio inside a narrow band, lot after lot.
Sodium in the flux ends up in the melt and shows up later as hot cracking or poor anodising. Our degassing grades are sodium-free, and low-smoke, so the shop floor ventilation does not become the constraint on cycle time.
A granule sized for a 20 t reverberatory furnace dissolves too slowly in a 500 kg crucible, and sits on the surface oxidising. We size the product to your furnace and dosing method, not to a catalogue default.
Tell us the alloy grade and furnace type, and we ship a 2 kg sample with the COA. No charge for the sample, you cover nothing until it performs.
